They might not have much in common other than being “Super”, but the Golden Melody Awards nominations for Superband and Super Junior-M have sure caused some controversies.
Super Junior-M released their Chinese mini album last year to further expand their Asian market. Although the Mandarin pronunciations from some of their Korean members might be questionable, fans didn’t mind and flocked to buy their album anyways. Unfortunately, soon after their nomination for Best Singing Group was announced, netizens were already questioning why they were nominated despite their shaky Mandarin. Other netizens came to their defense and stressed that they were in fact singing in Chinese.Superduper Superband was also criticized by netizens on their nomination for Best Band. The band was formed in 2008 with veteran superstars Lo Da-Yu (55), Jonathan Lee (51), Emil Chau (49) and Chang Chen-Yue (36). They have performed over 40 shows in the past two years and is estimated to have made 4.3 billion (NTD). The band announced that they will breakup after racking up enough retirement savings their concert tour. Some netizens questioned the choice nominating a “Limited-time only” band.
Regardless of anyone’s opinion, Superband will take home at least one Golden Melody award on June 26th – They will be given a special judging committee award for their contributions to the music industry.

An expensive Korean version of ‘ASAP’

MANILA, Philippines—Taxi driver admits he was wondering why so many girls were standing in line at the Araneta Coliseum early Saturday afternoon.
Inside the Big Dome that night, Super Junior (SJ) mania was in high gear. The Korean pop group, apparently a hit with the bagets crowd, didn’t have to do anything to elicit deafening cheers. Gosh, just standing there, or laughing onstage created pandemonium.
It was insane.
How else to explain young Pinoy fans yelling like crazy over SJ’s 10 members (down from 13) who sang to pretaped music, the songs mostly in the Korean language? (All right, a few numbers had some English lyrics, one of which proclaimed, “I love you everyday.”)
It’s not that the guys’ voices rang with astounding quality. Nor did they stupefy us with body moves that could put the contestants in ABS-CBN’s “Showtime” to shame.
What they did mostly was go through the motions of an act that consisted of harmonizing on generic pop melodies, with minus-one music turned way up loud—the ear-splitting volume failed to mask the singers’ generally so-so talents.
Standout number
But, in fairness, one number stood out: Two members played violin and piano, while a third one, sharply dressed in white suit and hot pink shirt, growled on the mic like a closet punk rocker.
Otherwise, everything looked like a Korean version of “ASAP.”
A solo spot featuring another member who sang RnB and danced like Michael Jackson looked like he was lip-synching.
Still another spot, with one member dancing with a female guest to Craig David’s “Insomnia,” only caused confusion: Was that K-Pop or what?
Worse, a production number with Peter, Paul and Mary’s “Puff the Magic Dragon” as background music turned out to be a cheap shot at comedy—several SJ members engaging in kooky antics while wearing children’s show costumes.
All these, while the crowd cheered incessantly.
If this was an expensive concert, the money probably went to the theatrical stage setup, which had catwalks and mechanized parts which allowed the performers to revolve or descend from view.
Only problem was, the performers were no Broadway stars.
Super Junior’s 4th Album Sweeping Album Charts
Super Junior Group reputas through album sales continue to increase.

The World’s First 3D Live Concert to feature Super Junior and 2AM
A spectacular event will be held on the 19th of May in Seoul Yeouido Park, it will showcase and celebrate the World’s first 3D stage.
KBS will be holding a concert at 6pm on May 19 for a special stage in Yeouido Park featuring artists like 2am, Super Junior, Norazo and many more. This will be the Worlds First 3D Live concert that will be broadcast through KBS 1TV live as well in 3D.
KBS received permission from Korea Communications Commission last month to have this experimental stage for a 3DTV transmitting station installed. They will be having a cutting edge 3D camera’s to record the concert, all test preparations has been completed and ready to go.
The concert will be shown through a 620 Inch Screen for special views and it will be available through live 3D. the 620 inches LED screen will be for the super special stage in Yeouido Plaza also, they will be handing out FREE 3D glasses to viewers to experience the 3D effect of the concert.
